Curing Chemical Dependency
Addiction Treatments at our Harrisburg Office
Addiction is an awful yet curable disease. For many men and women who are addicted to alcohol and/or other drugs, overcoming an addiction is one of the most challenging endeavors they will ever face. Without professional help, an individual is likely to remain ensnared in the vicious cycle of substance abuse, unable to break free from this potentially lethal lifestyle. However, with proper treatment, those who have previously been unable to overcome their chemical dependency can do so and experience a healthier, more productive life.
What is addiction?
Addiction is a disease. It is a chronic dysfunction of the brain system that involves reward, motivation and memory. It’s about the way the body craves a substance, especially if it causes a compulsive or obsessive pursuit of it.
Addiction can seriously interfere with daily life, and those experiencing addiction are prone to cycles of relapse and remission. Despite cycles of intense and moderate use, addictions will typically worsen and over time can lead to permanent health complications.
How is addiction treated?
Dr. Jatto uses medication assisted addiction treatment to help ease the cravings and uncomfortable physical symptoms of withdrawal, allowing the patient to break free from their dependence on harmful drugs. This enables them to focus on healing and recovery.
When meeting with Dr. Jatto, she will speak with you, the patient, to learn more about your goals, create a recovery plan and often prescribe medications that help treat addiction.
We also encourage participation in a treatment program to further help with the recovery process. For more information visit: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Does addiction treatment work?
When combined with professional treatment, medication assisted therapy is proven to reduce cravings, decrease the likelihood of future substance abuse and lessen withdrawal symptoms.
